Fourteen dry/wet heat exchangers are arranged in seven A-frame or delta assemblies on the elevated floor of the tower. To allow deluging of the latter, the fin plates are oriented vertically with tubes running horizontally. Deluge water is introduced at a controlled rate at the apex of the delta configuration from a series of nozzles located in a bonnet running the length of the heat exchanger, which seals off airflow out the ends. The water sprays from the nozzles in a flat pattern, impinges on the ends of the plate fins, flows down the width of the heat exchanger, drains into a collection trough at the bottom, and is recycled.
The airflow arrangement is parallel with dry air blown horizontally into the wet airstream emerging from the next section.
